“I’ve discovered that 4K videos recorded at 100mbps with my GH4 won’t play on Microsoft Windows Media Player. I’m referring to videos straight out of the camera without any editing. Any solution for me to play 4K video in Windows Media Player flawlessly?”
I have found many threads online that talk about the 4K and Window Media Player playback issue. More than more guys complained Windows Media Player can’t support 4K video files. Have you ever met the similar issue? In this article, I’d like to share the easiest solution to help you open and view 4K files in Windows Media Player at your will.
As you see, there are more and more 4K media we can access like from 4K professional camcorders(Panasonic GH4, Blackmagic, Sony FDR-AX100), YouTube… But we found that 4K video is still not widely supported by popular video players like VLC, Windows Media Player, etc.
There are two factors that matter for whether WMP can play MP4 4K files on a PC:
- Operating system – Windows 8.1.
- Processor – Intel third or fourth generation. AMD processors may have problems; older Intel chips may have problems.
